15 Interesting phone cases

If you thought your smartphone couldn't be cooler, allow me to prove you wrong. From phone protectors with various tools attached to a case that's a phone all its own, join me as we count down 15 rather unique phone cases. Update April 1, 2026 (no this not an April Fool's Day joke): Added 5 more entries to the list.

#15: PocketPlug

No wires!

This case has some electric prongs on the back, so you can just plug your phone into an electrical outlet and charge it that way.

#14: A-MAZE-ING Retro Gamer

A-maze-ing indeed!

This is a series of classic marble in maze games that never require electricity and work regardless of whether or not your phone is on.

#13: PocketBuddy

It holds more than just phones!

This case features a secret compartment that you can store small items into, including your keys, credit cards and headphones. It also has a removable insert for sorting pills.

#12: Hyperkin Smartboy

A clever way of playing your Old GameBoy games!

While there's dozens of accessories for gaming on your phone, including cases like the Soolra, Gamebaby and the as far as I know nonexistent Caliber Advantage, this one is unique. It has a cartridge drive that along side a specific emulator lets you play your old GameBoy and GameBoy Color games on your phone, directly from the cartridges.

#11: Oaxis Inkcase

Dual screens for the win!

This case features a low power epaper screen that can tell the time, show notifications, stream ebooks and more even when the connected phone is off.

#10: Whale Case

Thar he or she does stuff!

True to its name, this case is in the shape of a whale, complete with flippered tail. The tail can be used for a number of different things, including holding your wired headphones and hanging the phone from a horizontal pole.

#9: Duck case

Functional and cute all at the same time!

The back of this case resembles a baby duck, complete with a cute beak and little legs. The legs can not only stand the phone up, but they can also hold your wired headphones.

#8: Pepper spray case

I'd say this'll show an attacker, but chances are they won't be seeing anything for a while when hit with this!

This case will not only protect your phone, but also protect you, because it has a pepper spray container ready to be used at any time.

#7: Kobwa Gameboy case

Sure you can just use an emulator to play Gameboy games on your phone, but that option doesn't include physical buttons!

This retro-style case has several built-in games that you can play at any time, even when the phone it's connected to is low on battery or charging.

#6: Fidget spinner case

Spin baby spin!

This phone case comes with a built-in fidget spinner that doubles as a phone grip.

#5: Bottle opener and lighter case

Going to a bar tonight? This'll be the perfect tool!

This heavy-duty case has 2 extra tools built in. The first is a bottle opener for your cold brew and the second is a contact lighter for your incendiary needs.

#4: Voxkin waterproof case

For they outdoorsman in you!

This heavy-duty case will protect your phone from any water that comes its way. Not only that, but it also has a built-in compass to help you find your way and a lanyard for easy holding.

#3: Taser case

When a problem comes along, you must zap it! If an attacker comes along, you must zap em!

This case has 2 functions. It can not only knock out any potential attackers, but can also charge your phone.

#2: TaskOne

If your thought your phone couldn't be more versatile, let this guy disprove your theory!

This case has multiple different tools on it, including a knife, a bottle opener, several screw drivers and wire cutters. It pretty much makes your phone even more useful.

#1: Eye Smart Case

2 Phones in 1? Now that's a phone case!

This is case is essentially an Android phone that fits over your iPhone. As of this writing this case is in the prototype stage, but I imagine it'd be really cool to have when it comes out.

If you were looking for some cool protective gear for your phone, I hope I helped. If you can think of any more versatile phone cases, fire up your keyboard and send some suggestions to the comments section. I'll see you later. Have a merry Christmas.

15 Interesting smart watches

What's better than having a computer in your pocket? Having one on your wrist, of course! From notifiers that connect to your phone to full on computers that can replace your phone, join me as we count down 15 smart watches worth checking out. Update march 30, 2026: Added five more entries, while making 1 omission so a joke I made in a future list would still make sense.

#15: ConnecteDevice CooKoo

That's a little cookoo!

This is something of a mix between an analog watch and a smartwatch. While it has a traditional watch face instead of a touchscreen, it has 6 icons that glow depending on what notifications your phone is sending you.

#14: Atari 2600 My Play Watch

The watch for Atari fanatics everywhere!

Along with the usual time telling and fitness tracking capabilities, this watch has four classic Atari games built into it: Pong, Centipede, Super Breakout and Missile Command.

#13: Kairos T Band

What a band!

This isn't a whole entire smartwatch. Instead, it is an electronic watch band with much of the functions of a smartwatch that you can attach to a traditional watch.

#12: Nubia

Wrap em up!

This unique specimen features a 4-inch screen that wraps halfway around your wrist, giving you ease of use and viewing even if your arm is turned slightly.

#11: Metawatch Strata

Press F to pay respects.

This sadly discontinued watch features black and white pixel screens and buttons for controlling not unlike the below mentioned Pebble. What makes it unique is its open source nature letting uses make their own apps and widgets.

#10: Martian

It looks like a normal watch, doesn't it?

While this one at first appears to be a standard luxury watch, underneath the clock is a tiny screen that displays whatever notifications your connected smartphone might be trying to send you.

#9: Samsung Gear S2

Spin baby spin!

It looks like your standard smartwatch, but it has a fun little secret. In addition to a touchscreen, this device holds a rotating bevel to help with navigating the menus. As if that wasn't enough, it is also compatible with 3G and 4G, so you don't even need to connect it to a smartphone to use it.

#8: VTech Kidizoom SmartwatchDX

They'll make a toy version of everything, won't they?

Instead of iOS or Android, this smartwatch for kids features a unique OS made by VTech. It features 2 cameras, a mini USB port and its own apps and watch faces.

#7: Omate Truesmart

Not the biggest option, but an option nonetheless!

This water-resistant little smartwatch can do everything a smartphone can do without being connected to one. It even includes a camera for picture taking, though at an awkward angle.

#6: Apple Watch

Well to be fair, this watch is kinda fancy.

In exchange for being incredibly expensive, this smartwatch offers extremely high class and almost unmatched customization. In addition, it also has water resistant casing, force touch capability and a button that doubles as a knob for additional app control. Just be sure to have an iOS device to pair with it.

#5: Pebble

Good news everybody: This one's making a comeback!

Unlike the other watches on this list, this one runs a black and white LCD screen and is controlled with 4 buttons on the sides instead of a touchscreen. There are 3 variations of this device: The original, toy-like model, the fancy Pebble Steel, and the Pebble Time, which uses a fancy new colored screen. While the Pebble company is now defunct, there is a fan community called Rebble that keeps the software alive.

#4: Neptune Pine

This thing pretty much is a phone!

Not only is this device much bigger than the standard watch (computer or otherwise), it can also function just like a smartwatch. As if that wasn't cool enough, the watch can also be detached from the strap to take pictures with.

#3: LeapFrog Leapband

Leave it to LeapFrog to put kids first!

Because this watch is aimed at kids 6 and under, it offers no GPS or calling functionality. Instead, it has preloaded kids games, a virtual pet, activity tracking and an award system.

#2: Fossil Wrist PDA

Meet the great grandfather of smartwatches!

Definitely the oldest device on the list, this device runs a black and white display and can synchronize data with a connected PC. While it might be dated nowadays, it was still a pretty big trail blazer for future smartwatches.

#1: ZYPAD

I know it goes on your wrist, but does this technically count?

This device is possibly the most unique of the bunch. First of all, it debuted in 2006, before smartwatches became widespread. Second, it is by far the biggest device on this list, being more of a bracelet than a watch. Lastly, it uses a Linux instead of running an operating system tailored for smartwatches or smartphones.

If you're looking for some great wristworn gadgets, I think you'll be happy. If you can think of some other great smart watches, be sure to drop some suggestions in the comments section. I'll see you later. Have a merry Christmas.
